The Avengers

The Avengers is one of Earth's foremost organization of costumed superhuman adventurers dedicated to safeguarding the world from any threat beyond the power of conventional peacekeeping forces to handle. Founded several months after the incorporation of the hero team Fantastic Four, the Avengers became the first superhuman team to be granted official government sanctions by the National Security Council of the United States, the General Assembly of the United Nations, and later by the international intelligence/law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D.

Avengers Mansion
Located at 721 (or 890) Fifth Avenue in New York, this three-story townhouse was originally built in 1932 by industrialist Howard Stark as his Manhattan residence. It was eventually donated by Stark's son, founding Avenger Iron Man (Tony Stark), through the charitable Maria Stark Foundation. The mansion served as the longtime home of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, providing housing, training, and medical facilities for Avengers members as well as storing quinjets and other equipment.

Stark family butler Edwin Jarvis remained on staff as the head domestic servant for the team. In addition to the normal duties required of such a position, Jarvis was often called upon to help with emergency medicine, acquisition of cutting-edge technology, and attending to the other needs of the world's premiere superteam.

In the early days after the founding of the Avengers, Thor and Iron Man pushed the entire mansion 35 feet back from Fifth Avenue to gain additional privacy. The Avengers initiated other modifications as needed throughout their usage of the mansion, such as the Zero Room constructed for Jack of Hearts.

The Story of Avengers
as in the Marvel Universe forum

"Avengers Assemble!" Captain America would yell and the Avengers would hurry to their stations to fight those villains that they hate most. Those were the glorious days of the Avengers but those days were long gone. Within the inner circles of the Avengers, various heroes began to take up different opinions and trouble began to arise. Slowly but surely, the Avengers could see that the supergroup were beginning to crumple from within. However, Scarlet Witch the straw which broke the camel's back when she lost her grip on reality. In her madness, she murdered several members of the alliance and destroyed the Avengers Mansion. She was ultimately subdued by Doctor Strange's Eye of Agamotto. Although the danger was over, the tragedy remained in everybody's heart. With the destruction of their headquarters and the death of several known members, the founding members of the Avengers decided that it was time for the alliance to be disbanded and thus, Avengers Disassembled.

Three decades had passed since the tragedy and the world was still in need of heroes. A young man stood before the rubbles left in 721 Fifth Avenue in New York. He gazed upon the building and sighed in a gloomy sort of way. The building before him was never meant lie in ruins. It was once the headquarters of the world's finest heroes and it held so many secrets within its walls. The young man sighed once more as he imagined the days of glamour that had already been forgotten by so many. He brushed his hand over his flowing dark hair and snapped his finger. Immediately, one the other men who had been standing behind him all this time walked quickly towards him. The young man titled his head, nodded and muttered, "Let's get it started.".

That marked the day when the young heir to the Stark Industries, Matthew Stark set foot upon the old Avengers Mansion. Several days later, after much several meetings with local Town Council and his company's own Board of Directors, he had finally persuaded them to allow him to rebuild the Avengers Mansion upon its old site. The young Stark was actually an aspiring young superhero, much like his predecessor, Tony Stark. With the money pumped into the project of rebuilding the Avengers Mansion, he was onto his next goal and that was to assemble a group of heroes who would known as the Avengers.

X-Men

The X-Men are a group of mutants founded by Professor Charles Xavier. Due to a sudden leap in evolution, Mutants, or Homo Superiors, are born with superhuman abilities which generally manifest themselves at puberty. Mutants are often hated and feared by humans because they are different. As a response Xavier created his School For Gifted Youngsters to provide a safe environment where mutants could learn to control their powers. The X-Men fight for a future where humans and mutants could live together in peace.

X-Mansion
Located at 1407 Graymalkin Lane, just outside of Salem Center, Westchester County, New York, the original ancestral Xavier estate was built in the late 1700's. Currently owned by Charles Francis Xavier, this sprawling mansion was erected near Breakstone lake and serves as a school, as well as the secret headquarters of the outlaw band of mutants known as the X-Men.

The estate was originally named The Xavier School For Gifted Youngsters, but changed its name to The Xavier Institute for Higher Learning with the opening of a new school in Snow Valley, Massachusetts. Since the recent closing of the Massachusetts Academy, the original name was restored, although due to the reconstruction of the Mansion the name has once more been changed to The Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.

The Mansion was destroyed by a brainwashed Franklin Richards, a student at Xavier's. During its reconstruction, the Mansion took on a bold new appearance; the overall Mansion is in the shape of an "X", while it boasts two separate dorm buildings and a maze.
Although the outside looks modern, the inside has retained its 1700's style decor with oak-paneled walls and wooden floors. The mansion still houses its state of the art facilities for the education, training and protection of mutants.

In secrecy though, the Professor had initiated another project of his, one which involves a group of highly trained student of his. This group of mutants formed the X-Men, a superhero alliance which existed to protect mankind from evil mutants and also to protect innocent mutants from human oppression.

The X-Men had faced many dangers throughout the past years and they managed to survive through evil the most difficult of them all. As such, the story of the X-men remained to be seen. The prospect of the team will be in the hands of the new mutants.

Brotherhood of Mutants

The Brotherhood of Mutants was a group dedicated to the cause of mutant superiority over humans. Throughout its various incarnations, the Brotherhood's agenda gravitated towards either subjugating the human race to the will of mutants or eradicating humanity altogether. Magneto formed the original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, including Astra, Toad, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Mastermind, shortly after the public debut of the X-Men.

Hellfire Club

The Hellfire Club counted among its members many famous and influential members of society. Membership was passed on to descendants, and could be earned through wealth or influence. The club had branches in New York City, Paris, Hong Kong and London. The various branches were overseen by the Lord Imperial.

Many of the wealthiest and most powerful businessmen of the world, including Tony Stark and Norman Osborn, have inherited or gained membership to the Hellfire Club. While many accepted the invitation merely for the pleasures that the Club offered, many others sought out to obtain wealth and influence. In fact, the purpose of the Hellfire Club was to obtain and exert power through politics and economic influence instead of outward conquest and domination. Since its foundation, the Hellfire Club had been involved in wars and assassinations as long as these helped further the agendas of the Club's most prominent members.

Unbeknownst to most members of the club, the organization was ruled by a Council of the Chosen. This secret group later renamed itself the Inner Circle and assumed the titles of chess pieces. Originally the Inner Circle was composed of normal humans, but was slowly infiltrated and dominated by super-powered mutants of various abilities. Though not always the most powerful of mutantkind, the Inner Circle allowed within its rank only those of exceptional ability. A common theme, though with exceptions, was for the White and Black queens of the organization to possess a psychic ability of some nature; no doubt aiding the organization to further their conspiracies.

The Hellfire Club's mansion is located at 840 Fifth Avenue, between 66th and 67th Streets. This places it in Manhattan's East Side, only a few blocks away from the Avengers Mansion.

Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate
(S.H.I.E.L.D.)

Founded to combat technologically advanced threats on world security (specifically the menace of HYDRA), S.H.I.E.L.D. has, throughout the years, remained on the frontlines fighting terrorism and extraterrestrial menaces working as an international intelligence agency.

In its original incarnation, S.H.I.E.L.D. stood for "Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-enforcement Division," and the organization was a branch of the United States government. Veteran spy and soldier Col. Nick Fury had created the blueprints for the idea some time after World War II, but decided not to act upon them, since he felt the U.S. government would deny such a request. A United Nations-based international group somehow obtained the plans, and presented them to the U.S. government as a viable countermeasure against the nascent threat of HYDRA.

Fury first realized that his brainchild had been made reality when he was approached by the founders of the group to act as its second Public Director, as his predecessor Rick Stoner had met an untimely end. While Fury acted as the operational head of the agency, he answered to these founders, the Executive Board, whose identities were hidden even from him. Otherwise, Fury was the highest ranking agent in an eight-rank tier. Some suspect that Tony Stark, billionaire playboy and the superheroic Iron Man, may have been one of the Board.

S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier
The Helicarrier, an aircraft carrier specifically designed to be itself capable of independent powered flight in addition to the standard functions of aircraft carriers, is the world headquarters and signature capital ship of the extragovernmental intelligence/defense agency S.H.I.E.L.D..

Built by Stark Industries and designed by Tony Stark, Dr. Reed Richards, and former X-Man Forge. In addition to housing a wing of fighters and other aircraft, the Helicarrier bristles with advanced weaponry, including an intercontinental ballistic missile.
The first Helicarrier was proposed by Stark Industries as a political compromise among the signatories of the treaty in response to fears that any nation hosting the Directorate's main headquarters would be subject to attack by organizations such as HYDRA with domestic political fallout sure to follow immediately thereafter.

Constructed in secret there are at least eight Helicarriers have been built over the decades, and at least two have been in simultaneous service in the last decade on several occasions.
